Contemporary Christian music has the power to educate and inspire. Music, of the Christian variety or any other variety, has the power to inspire emotions, to transport memories in time, and to make us thankful for the blessings in our life. The truth is that there are many biblical lessons that people have learned and remember thanks to the gospel songs that they heard in their youth. Today, young and old alike are still learning and being inspired by Christian music. No matter if you prefer traditional Christian music or upbeat Christian rock, there is an artist out there who will send chills down your spine with their heartfelt lyrics.
The internet has made it possible to download a vast amount of music free of charge. There are literally millions of Christian songs in every language imaginable available online. All you have to do to find your favorite music by your favorite artists is to type a few keywords into a search box and Voila! You may find hundreds of sources for your Christian music in seconds.
The inexpensive marketing power of the internet has also made it possible for thousands of unknown artists to gain exposure. These are artists that do not have the capital and the record deal to thrust them into the limelight. These are instead artists who only have their heart, passion and talent to put into their music. And you can find all of these artists as well as popular artists online.
Unfortunately, though, much of the free music that you find online cannot be downloaded legally. It is subject to copyright, and there are stiff consequences for anyone who is caught illegally downloading and distributing music that belongs to others. If you do find music that you can download legally, it is often riddled with viruses, adware and spyware. Downloading music free of charge also poses ethical concerns for Christians who want to be sure that they only download legal music.
Thankfully, I found a site that takes away all the worries when it comes to downloading free Christian music. It features free “indie” music. This is music that is independent of the control of others, meaning that there are no record labels or producers involved. The site is not a melting pot where anyone, regardless of talent or motivation, can post their music. There are selective guidelines in place that ensure that the free music featured on the site is of the highest quality and absolutely legal.
While some of the artists are not well known, they have made it their life’s mission to produce music that inspires Christians. They may not have the backing of a record label, but they have talent and faith that can move mountains. The site can be accessed by logging onto ChristianMPFree.com.

Christian music is changing. It’s changing both in form and style, in terms of how it’s played and performed, but just as much, it’s also changing people, leading them closer to Christ. Christian music has become more and more mainstream where it’s hard to differentiate between mainstream music and Christian music. The difference between mainstream music and Christian music is that the Christian music lyrics are a positive alternative, not just another negative song out on the market.
Just the other day, listening to the radio, I heard Alive by P.O.D. on KROQ, an extremely secular radio station. This proves how Christian music is changing and evolving because it’s becoming more and more adopted as normal music than it is this church-going, hymnal music.
Christian music is becoming more of a “positive alternative” than it is this independent genre of its own that people stay away from. The positive aspect of Christian music though, is the how the Christian lyrics are influenced. It’s not the beat, it’s not the sound, but it’s the actual Christian lyrics that are being integrated into mainstream media.
Another band that can be captured in this is Switchfoot. Switchfoot lyrics are heavily influenced by Christianity, but they are not considered to be a Christian band by the secular world. They are certainly Christian rock lyrics, but still just rock lyrics in the eyes of the world.
There is the complete flip side of that though, such as Casting Crowns. Their lyrics are strongly influenced by Christianity and they are labeled as a Christian band because their music is more worship-focused. Christian worship music is almost a complete genre by itself because of how huge it is.
How has Christian worship music changed over time? It’s become quite a bit more modern. Casting Crowns is a great example of how it’s been modernized because it’s not the traditional organ and piano, but you have the complete band with guitar, drums, including the piano. It’s a complete band that sounds like a normal band, but it takes a worship aspect.
Christian music is a genre of music that cannot be ignored as a genre because of how massive it is. There are really no other religions which have such a prominent role in music as Christianity does.

Christian music has come a long way from the church-sanctioned melancholy chants of centuries gone by. It has rich history going back several hundred years. In fact, the earliest music manuscripts were of church origin.
When the separation of church and state began, secular music emerged in full force. Some people mistakenly believe that so-called “Christian” music died with this new era. In truth, the church’s loosened grip on music actually led to more diversified styles in Christian music.
Musician Larry Norman was considered a pioneer of Christian rock music. In fact, many still refer to him as “the father of Christian rock.” (Later in his life, the aging musician was tagged with the new tongue-in-cheek title: “Grandfather of Christian rock.”) Norman’s music may have been the anti-Gregorian chant, a fact that made him a criticized figure among his fellow Christians.
Still, Norman managed to gain an astounding following that hasn’t waned despite his recent death of heart failure. His musical talent is undeniable. Those stolid church leaders who would condemn his style needed only to listen to Norman’s songs. His faith in God was unquestionable.
Norman’s artistry flung open the door to Christian rock, as well as other popular music styles. Hip hop, dance, punk, metal, blues and pop-style music has been put to sacred words and ideas since.
Some on the outside of the Christian music scene criticize it all as un-original, carbon copies of secular music. However, a true study of Christian music and its history reveals that Christian musicians have been trend setters. Christian musician Phil Keaggy is regarded as possibly the world’s best guitarist. Even the legendary Jimi Hendrix was known to acknowledge Keaggy as a more worthy musician than himself.
Other artists have managed to make successful from crossovers from Christian to secular music. This seems to demonstrate that their talent transcends religion. Artists like Amy Grant generated fans in both the religious and the secular music industry. Gospel singer Kirk Franklin is another artist who made an impression in both the Christian and the secular market. His first album in 1993 went platinum. It stayed on the gospel chart for an astounding two years. What is perhaps more astounding is the fact that it charted on the R&B charts.
Today Franklin is a respected artist in many genres and circles. The band DC Talk broke new ground in the Christian music world in the 1980s and 90s. It began as a hip hop group, later evolving into a more pop-style group with rap influences. DC Talk managed to win respect in both worlds.
Today’s Christian music scene still burgeons with successful artists making names for themselves of their own rights. Michael W. Smith is a renowned singer, songwriter and three-time Grammy award winner. He has reinvented his career over the decades and is a noteworthy praise and worship leader and recording artist today. Bands like POD, Switchfoot, Relient K, Sixpence None the Richer and Lifehouse have proved that Christian artists can hold their own on the secular stage. Christian music and secular labels alike will undoubtedly continue to turn out high quality recordings from talented artists for many years.

Christian music has been said to be growing at a fast rate. Many people are now searching the web, looking to get access to the latest free christian music download tracks because of it’s growing popularity. This is a good thing, considering the fact that some of the people that do not regularly attend church, or do not consider themselves to be religious in any kind of way, have actually started turning their focus away from circular music.
This is a trend that the music industry did not anticipate and many religious people believe that free christian downloads could be a powerful tool to bring more people closer to God, and even help to have some of those people walking through church does to enjoy the Lords word. It is easy to see how the inspirational lyrics in new christian music download mp3s can be a good thing for the world and I would not be suprized if the number of people looking to download christian music rises even higher by the end of this year.
The more popular Christian artists that have been getting heavy airplay on circular radio stations have helped to drive millions of people to legal mp3 sites which have made it easy for people to get access to free christian music downloads legally. This is something that has taken the world by storm and I am absolutely convinced that the future will let us see even more people searching for the latest free christian mp3 downloads online.

“There are some people God has called to evangelism, and they’re doing a wonderful job, having results. That’s great. … God wanted us to do something else.So we got into the area of challenging people, and our ministry basically happens offstage one-on-one when we talk with people. It’s very subtle, but God’s doing a
work! It’s entertainment, it’s fun, its a concert–it s all those things–but at a subtle, deeper level, it touches people’s hearts” (TERRY TAYLOR OF THE DANIEL AMOS BAND, cited by Dan and Steve Peters, What about Christian Rock, p. 109).
“I love to hear the music playing slow or fast … Don’t stop, don’t stop the music, play it in your own way. . .. I hear dissenting voices quick to disagree. But I’m on a music mission; they don’t bother me. I’ll sing those songs that set me free. Cause kids want to rock” (ED DEGARMO AND DANA KEY, “Don’t Stop the Music ,” Streetlight, Benson
Publications, 1986, p. 24). “You now have songs about pain and death and divorce and *** and relationships and everything that every one of us goes through, whereas atone time contemporary Christian music only talked about the death and resurrection of Christ. We’re much more in
touch with ourselves and our neighbors, which is the whole idea behind Christ in the first place” (MELISSA HELM OF MYRRH RECORDS, Music Line magazine, June 1986, p. 4).
In Greebville Seminary Conference on Worship Taylors of South Carolina said “last thirty years or so have seen the most dramatic and speedy changes in Protestant worship in any time since the Reformation. Surely the principal mark and symbol of that change is the change in the music
of the church. The development of what has come to be called Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) has become an amazingly widespread phenomenon”. Due to the rise of Pentecostalism there is some dramatic change in development of CCM. Contemporary Christian Music is pop/rock version of
